United Methodist Women
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Trinity’s unit of United Methodist Women is a very active organization made up of eight small groups, known as “ Circles.” They meet on a monthly basis (except for the summer months), four gather for morning meetings and four for nightly meetings. Each Circle is unique in its membership and the way it interprets and upholds the universal purpose of the organization. There are also “Associate” and “Home” members who are assigned to the various Circles, providing opportunities to connect and communicate.
There are six General Meetings throughout the year where all Circle members join in a time of fellowship around the meal table and a spiritual growth program, focusing on the mission themes for the year. The study for 2009 was Native American Survival, Israel and Palestine and I Believe in Jesus. The year culminated with a Special Mission Recognition event, honoring church members who have done outstanding mission work, as well as a presentation of the new babies born into our UMW family.
Each year we have a project(s) to raise money for missions worldwide. In April 2010, UMW hosted Party on Purpose.
On the third Thursday of each month a group from our organization prepares and serves lunch at the Fire House Shelter, a facility for homeless men in downtown Birmingham. Each Circle is assigned a month to assist in serving these meals. Many Circles “adopt” other mission projects to support throughout the year.
Trinity’s United Methodist Women is an inclusive group of Christians who work together to better know God and to serve His Kingdom. There is something here for everyone! For more information, contact the church office at 879-1737.
